Soave, between Wine and Culture
Friends and readers of the Borgo Romantico Blog, in the June issue we accompany you to discover one of the most evocative villages in the Veneto.
Just 40 minutes from Borgo Romantico Relais is Soave, a medieval village located on the hills of Valpolicella.
We therefore rightfully include Soave among the destinations not to be missed during your holiday on Lake Garda Verona.
What to see in Soave:
* The historic centre: surrounded by crenellated walls, it is a succession of picturesque alleys, ancient buildings and artisan shops.
* The Scaligero Castle: imposing 14th century fortress, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding area.
* The Wine Museum: housed inside the Castle, it tells the story and winemaking tradition of Valpolicella.
* The Cathedral: Romanesque church from the 12th century, preserves valuable works of art.
* The crenellated walls: which surround the village, offer a suggestive walking route.
* The artisan shops: where you can find typical local products, such as olive oil, wine and homemade pasta.
Cheers! It's a Soave
One of the most well-known and appreciated regional products is born in this splendid area: Soave wine
Bianco di Soave has a delicate color, a clear nose and a rapid and satisfying flavor development.
The vines used are Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave.
History tells us that even before the year 1000 Cassiodorus summarized what the most important wine experts thought: in his epistles he recommended that the royal table should never lack Veronese wines made from "very sweet and full-bodied" white grapes, capable of expressing " clear purity... jovial candidness and incredible sweetness".
After the visit to the Borgo, on the way back to Borgo Romantico Relais, perhaps at sunset...
you can make some intermediate stops along the Soave roads.
A route of approximately 50 kilometers between vineyards, parish churches and castles which embraces the most qualified crus for the production of Soave.
To accompany your glasses you will find Monte Veronese cheese, Vialone Nano rice, oil and cherries from the Veronese hills, Veronese radicchio, San Mauro chestnut, all IGP or DOP products (recognised or in the process of being recognised) and all protagonists of this territory that you will not be able to forget.
We are waiting for you at Borgo Romantico Relais!
