For this December we recommend one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Garda area, reachable only on foot along a mule track that connects Castelletto and Prada. The destination of our walk is
Campo, a fraction of Brenzone sul Garda (30 km from Borgo Romantico - in the immediate vicinity of Malcesine - VR)
Visiting Campo in December will make your walk truly unique. Once you arrive in Campo you will find a truly unique display of
nativity scenes. This is an initiative that involves the local community and attracts numerous tourists. During the Christmas display, the nativity scenes become a significant attraction, offering a unique and evocative experience for those who visit the village.
Hidden between olive trees and cypresses, the characteristic village is made up of a group of stone houses, uninhabited and gathered together.
During our excursion we came across a castle covered by vegetation and the town's small church with well-preserved frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries of Byzantine influence inside.
We are without a shadow of a doubt on one of the most panoramic points on the Venetian coast of Lake Garda.
What made our visit to Campo truly special and
different from the usual is the fact that the village is now almost abandoned.
The remaining or returning inhabitants are now around twenty, mostly artists and farmers, accustomed to excursionists both in summer and winter.
Campo is in fact also sought after for the cribs hidden among the abandoned houses and the characteristic lighting visible from the valley.
The nativity scenes in Campo di Brenzone are an integral part of the
Christmas tradition in this charming village on Lake Garda. The "Christmas in Campo" event presents a display of handcrafted nativity scenes, around 120-130, which adorn the village during the Christmas period. These nativity scenes are not limited to public spaces, but are also placed in the houses and ravines of the village, creating a magical and engaging atmosphere for visitors.
Our walk in the midst of nature, the absolute silence, the breathtaking view,
made the atmosphere of our trek today truly unique.
We had the feeling of having entered a place where time truly stopped centuries ago. We share with you a ring path; here is the link:
